Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh volunteer opportunity — Reading Buddies. Reading Buddies is a CLP program that places caring adults in the library’s Children’s department. Reading Buddies serve to foster positive interactions with children beyond reading books.
Allegheny County DHS volunteer opportunity — Refugee Career Mentoring Program. Each semester, we recruit an Education Outreach intern to assist our Education Outreach Coordinator with the Japan in the Schools program and the High School Japanese Speech Contest.
As an intern, you will play an active role in the support of our various programs, present research to the Executive Director, and help with daily office tasks.
The [Japan in the Schools](<https://japansocietypa.org/JIS>) program is a unique program that brings Japanese education into classrooms in Western PA. Education Outreach Coordinator Katsuko Shellhammer guides the visits with teams of volunteers, so you can participate even if you're new to Japanese culture or if English is your second language.

Volunteers are needed to help tutor at the Community Intensive Supervision Program (CISP) in both their Penn Hills and Wilkinsburg location. You will have the opportunity to work with youth who have been impacted by the justice system, helping them with their homework assignments and encouraging their academic progress.
We are looking for tutors to assist with GED prep, Language Learning (a combination of ESOL and literacy), and peer literacy tutoring.
Tutors willing to commute is essential, as the facilities are a distance from the city of Pittsburgh.
SCI Greene classes are Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 10:30 or 1:00pm - 3:30.
