The Japan in the Schools program is a unique program that brings Japanese education into classrooms in Western PA. Education Outreach Coordinator Katsuko Shellhammer guides the visits with teams of volunteers, so you can participate even if you're new to Japanese culture or if English is your second language. With many visits each school year, this is our largest volunteer opportunity. As of 2015, all school volunteers are required to have background checks. Empowering Readers for Success: K-3 Literacy Tutoring
ERAS tutors volunteer 2 hours per week at their local elementary school to help a child build literacy skills. All training and lessons are provided for you and a high school diploma is required.
Personal Pitch Presentation with High School Entrepreneurs
Students will provide a two-minute pitch on their identity, interests, and academic and/or career aspirations to a panel of volunteer judges. They'll end by answering the question: What do they hope to gain or learn from volunteers? Following student pitches, volunteers will answer questions about their career progression!
