## Become a Food Rescue Hero
Our volunteers are our personal heroes. Seven days a week across seven counties in Western PA, thousands of people are saving good food from going to landfill.
With the 412 Food Rescue app, you can volunteer as much or as little as you’d like.
University of Pittsburgh community partner — volunteer with CHS Food Pantry. The Community Human Services (CHS) Food Pantry needs volunteers to assist during preparation and distribution each week. This involves sorting food (including overripe produce), stocking shelves, preparing the indoor market, and assisting families.
JFCS volunteer role (JFCS Squirrel Hill Food Pantry) — Food drives. Get your whole community involved and host a food drive for the Squirrel Hill Food Pantry. Our team will provide you with a list of food items to collect and marketing materials to support your drive.

JFCS volunteer role (JFCS Squirrel Hill Food Pantry) — Group volunteering. Form a team of volunteers to unload trucks, organize and stock food, and create emergency bags.
This volunteer opportunity is a one-time commitment with a shift lasting 2-3 hours, however your group is welcome to do multiple group volunteering.
JFCS volunteer role (JFCS Squirrel Hill Food Pantry) — Shopping, stocking, and bag building. Shift volunteers help on a weekly, biweekly, or monthly basis. Help us unload, organize shelves, stock food, guide clients through their pantry shop, explain food options to clients, and weigh their groceries before they leave.
JFCS volunteer role (We are excited to have you on board!) — As Needed Tasks. These tasks come up a few times a month. Examples include helping clients get State IDs, teaching clients how to get to the food pantry, assisting with cultural orientation sessions, organizing donations, picking up or dropping off donations, and various administrative tasks.
JFCS volunteer role (We are excited to have you on board!) — Host a food drive. Host a food drive for the Squirrel Hill Food Pantry and get your community involved. We’ll give you a list of items to collect and marketing materials to help promote your drive.
It’s a one-time activity, with the option to do more if you’re interested.

Partner Agency Resource Table
Our food distribution runs from 9:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., with participants often beginning to line up as early as 7:30 a.m. Most engagement with partner agencies happens between 8:30/9:00 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., when the line is longest and most active.
Prepare & Serve Dinner for Pleasant Valley Shelter Residents
Every day of the year, generous volunteers from community groups, churches, and other organizations throughout the Pittsburgh area prepare, deliver, and serve evening meals for the shelter residents. Hundreds of volunteers are involved in this important and much appreciated process.
# Thanksgiving Meal Delivery
Join us on the Saturday before Thanksgiving as we pack Thanksgiving meals for families, we serve in Allegheny County and then deliver the meals. This annual event provides Thanksgiving meals to over 150 families.
