Calling all bookworms! Book Lovers Day is August 9, and we’ve got a fun way for you to celebrate by spreading the joy of reading, one beloved book at a time.
Celebrate Book Lovers Day by sharing a book you love in a Little Free Library near you. You’ll be expanding book access by sharing your favorite reads.
Pittsburghers for Public Transit runs three active volunteer committees: Organizing (phone banks, bus-stop canvasses, in-person Shadyside meetings, 6-month training series), Communications (blog writing, video editing, social media, photography, graphic design), and Research (weekly meetings, data and policy research, reports).
Mount Washington CDC supports volunteers for the Farmers Market on the Mount (Wednesdays 3-7 PM Jun-Sep at St. Mary of the Mount Church) as traffic coordinators, clean-up crew, and planning committee, plus the Mt. Washington Community Garden and Emerald View Park co-stewardship roles.
We are structured as a collaborative organization comprised of community-based organizations from the following eleven South Pittsburgh neighborhoods: Allentown, Arlington, Arlington Heights, Beltzhoover, Bon Air, Carrick, Knoxville, Mount Washington, Mount Oliver City, South Side Slopes, and Saint Clair, as well as Mount Oliver Borough.

OCA Youth, Pittsburgh Chapter, is comprised of teens ranging from 7th to 12th grade.
Penn Hills Volunteer Fire Department #227 recruits volunteer firefighter applicants age 16 and older (parental consent required under 18). No prior experience required; all gear and training provided. Apply via the company's online application.
Penn Hills Volunteer Fire Department #223 (North Bessemer, founded 1925) is an all-volunteer fire company running approximately 650-720 calls/year. Protective gear and training provided at no cost to members; new firefighters complete county-academy training within their first probationary year.

Logans Ferry Heights Volunteer Fire Department, Allegheny County Station 235, is one of four fire departments serving Plum Borough, Allegheny County, which is located approximately 15 miles east of Pittsburgh.
Holiday Park Volunteer Fire Department (Station 236, Plum Borough) recruits volunteers across five roles: Firefighter (paid stipend program available), Fire Police (traffic and scene control), Junior Firefighter (ages 14-17), EMS / QRS responder (medical first response), and Special Events Staffing Team (parade and community-event support).

Pennsylvania Interfaith Impact Network (PIIN) organizes Allegheny County congregations across faith traditions for racial and economic justice campaigns. Volunteers join action teams on housing access, criminal-justice reform (Right2Counsel), education equity, voter engagement, and immigration justice.
