Shaler Villa Volunteer Fire Company (VFC) is always looking for new members! Whether you’re interested in firefighting, Quick Response Services (QRS/EMS), or supporting the station through administrative or fundraising roles, we have opportunities for everyone aged 15 and up to get involved and make a difference in the community. Our variety of membership types ensures that everyone can find a way to contribute to our mission. Below are the descriptions of each type of membership. Membership Opportunities
Active Member - Firefighter
Requirements:
Must be 18 years old.
Complete the Essentials of Firefighting Training at the Allegheny County Fire Academy within your first year.
Fulfill 25% of hours of fundraising each year.
Membership Status:
You will begin with a one-year Probationary Membership, during which you will receive mentorship and training to prepare for full Active Member status.
Junior Member
Requirements:
Open to ages 14-18.
Must have parental consent.
Submit all report cards with no failing grades to ensure academic success.
Fulfill 25% of hours of fundraising each year.
Restrictions:
Age-based restrictions apply, such as limited roles on emergency scenes, which will be explained during a meeting with the Line Officers and parents.
Opportunities:
Junior Members receive valuable training and hands-on experience that prepares them for future Active Membership while fostering teamwork and responsibility.

Role:
Business Members do not respond to fire calls or engage in fireground activities. Instead, they play a crucial role in supporting the financial and operational needs of the company through event coordination, administrative tasks, and community outreach.

Shaler Township Fire Police
The Township of Shaler is accepting applications for Fire Police Officers. Fire Police assist Shaler Police with traffic control at emergency scenes and support special events within the Township. Training is provided in collaboration with the Shaler Police Department, Fire Departments, and EMS, covering:
Traffic Direction
First Aid and CPR
NIMS Awareness
Haz-Mat Awareness
Orientation in Police, Fire, and Emergency Medical operations

| PCRG Program VISTA assisting to build strong systems
Pittsburgh Community Reinvestment Group (PCRG) is a community development organization fostering the revitalization of underserved neighborhoods in Pittsburgh. Since 1988 as a 501(c) (3) non-profit corporation, PCRG has become a nationally recognized leader in equitable lending and access to credit. PCRG empowers community development organizations in the region, providing resources like the VISTA program, which enhances organizational capacity and cultivates leadership. The program has been successful in advancing the careers of VISTA members, who are given opportunities for professional development throughout the year. About 70% of VISTAs have gone on to positions at community non-profits, while the other 30% have pursued higher education, often supported by the end-of-service education award. The position will build PCRG’s existing programing and delivery to community-based partners to revitalize communities to overcome poverty through the elimination of blight, creation of safe and affordable housing and fostering of community-based entrepreneurship. The VISTA will assess current effectiveness of outreach and engagement, including external communications, invites for working groups, and membership. VISTA will then develop a program plan and implement it to improve engagement & communication. Work will include updating membership database and performing an assessment survey of PCRG members. All to improve training and educational events, attendance at working groups and member engagement. Relevant skills needed include research and writing, website management and communications, including developing an organizational social media strategy. Self-motivated, curious, and passionate people are encouraged to apply. This position is suited for any age group. A candidate with a college degree is more likely to be more successful; however, do not hesitate to apply if you feel your experience, interests and skills would be a good match.
