Volunteer opportunities
Volunteers work in The Factory helping visitors of all ages make art inspired by Andy Warhol, assist in the museum’s world-famous archives, or provide office and curatorial support. Volunteer opportunities also exist in the registrars and rights/reproduction offices.
Adult Volunteers
No science expertise necessary—just a sense of fun and a willingness to learn! All positions focus on creating an extraordinary visitor experience. Our volunteer team includes diverse people of all ages, abilities, educational levels, and employment backgrounds.
Volunteers play a major part at Powdermill Nature Reserve, the museum’s environmental research center in the Laurel Highlands. Volunteers help with mailings, data management, summer children’s programs, trail grooming, and cleanup days. Volunteers also assist in a variety of ways at our bird banding station.

Volunteers conduct data entry for researchers, work behind-the-scenes in offices, conduct marketing and exhibition surveys, and help with various projects and programs.

Veterans Leadership Program of Western PA (VLP) supports veterans across four programmatic pillars: Housing, Supportive Services, Career Development, and Wellness. Volunteer touchpoints include recurring Volunteer Days (group service days at VLP facilities) and Mentorship roles pairing community members with veterans navigating transitions.

Teen Volunteer Opportunities
Are you a teen who loves Carnegie Museums? Are you looking for a fun and exciting way to spend your summer and gain valuable experience? Apply to become a teen volunteer assistant with our museum summer camps!
Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse (PCCR) is a creative-reuse retail nonprofit diverting craft and art supplies from landfills (similar mission to Construction Junction's building-materials reuse). 30+ shop volunteers organize, sort, bag, and clean incoming donations; education volunteers support workshops and family events.
Attack Theatre is a Lawrenceville-based contemporary dance company. Volunteers support performances and special events — typical roles include front-of-house, ticketing, education-program support, and event operations.

Bach Choir of Pittsburgh is a professional chamber choir. Concert volunteers handle set-up and tear-down, box office, ushering, and on-site support. Year-round project work includes document archiving, IT/networking support, business engagement, and community-group outreach. Choir performs throughout the season at venues across Pittsburgh.
City of Asylum is a Northside-based literary nonprofit hosting exiled writers and free public events at Alphabet City. Event volunteers help with set-up, book and merchandise sales, guest registration, ushering, photography, and clean-up. Volunteers attend the program as audience between tasks; 60-minute pre-show arrival, ≤20 lb lifting noted.

# Volunteering
Make new friends while getting to know the inner workings of one of the nation’s premier cultural institutions.
Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre is the major regional ballet company. Volunteer roles fall into four areas: Special Events (galas, fundraisers), the PBT Boutique (merchandise team during performances), Education and community-engagement programs, and Backstage Tour Docents (trained guides for behind-the-scenes hospital + school visits).
Whitehall Public Library volunteers help staff with weekly activities, special projects, and library programs. A separate Service Projects for Teens track supports community-service hours via Children's Library program assistance and short-term projects. Northland Public Library (Ross Township / McCandless area — one of the largest non-CLP branches in Allegheny County) accepts adult volunteers across program support and the semi-annual book sale. PA Act 153 clearances (PA Criminal History, Child Abuse, FBI for non-PA residents) are required for most roles, renewable every 60 months.
Sewickley Public Library accepts volunteer applications for future openings — currently not actively onboarding new volunteers but accepting applications for consideration when openings arise. Volunteers perform many roles supporting library services. Application form on the page captures preferences (day of week, motivations) for matching when slots open.
Bloomfield-Garfield Corporation (BGC) hosts recurring Volunteer Information Sessions and Board Meet-and-Greets where residents learn about volunteering opportunities — Community Committees, Garfield Green Zone (urban-greening + tree planting), and event support. BGC serves the Bloomfield, Garfield, Friendship, and Lawrenceville neighborhoods.
