Staged Interiors and the Fragmented Dream Home

Hosted by the Humanities Center and featuring faculty fellow, Sean Morrissey. Staged Interiors and the Fragmented Dream Home examines how custom home building design and real estate imagery shape ideas of belonging, self-definition, and success. Drawing from personal and public archives, the project moves through printmaking, artist publications, and modular installations to reconsider model-home aesthetics as visual systems of conformity. Rather than treating the dream home as a stable ideal, the work breaks it apart through image constellations and fixed typologies that expose its reliance on repetition and prefabricated choice. These fragments become works on and of paper along with possible participatory forms that circulate beyond conventional display. In doing so, the project proposes counter-structures for living, where domestic space becomes open to critique and alternative possibilities. Respondents include Hebah Uddin from English + Triton Mobley, Assistant Professor of Computational Art Practices + Expanded Cinema, Departments of Studio Arts + Film & Media Studies at the University of Pittsburgh.
