AI Proposal Event

This working session is designed for University of Pittsburgh researchers, instructors, and staff who are developing AI-related academic programs, courses, or curricular proposals. Rather than a general brainstorm, the session focuses on the practical realities of building something new at Pitt: naming conventions, approval pathways, and the policies that govern how a program moves from concept to catalog. Bring your nascent idea or draft — a new course, certificate, concentration, or degree program — and get feedback grounded in both disciplinary substance and institutional process. Participants will surface questions like: What's the right name and level for this program? Which approval pathway applies? How does this fit into Pitt's broader AI and data science ecosystem, and where does it align with existing GenEd reform or graduate program development already in motion? In addition to critique, the session is intended to catalyze connections to peers building similar programs, to the responsible AI and data science leadership framework HAIL is developing, and to the campus offices (Provost's Office, Graduate Studies, GenEd reform, etc.) that can move a concept toward formal approval. Come prepared with a one-page summary or brief notes to guide feedback. Whether you're proposing a new opportunity, course, a certificate, a graduate concentration, or a degree program incorporating AI, you'll leave with concrete recommendations on both content and process, and a clearer path through Pitt's program development pipeline.
