In Hinduism, Lakshmi Poojan occurs on “Main Diwali,” the third day of the five-day Diwali festival of lights, which symbolizes the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance. This major holiday is celebrated with lights, prayer, feasts, and gatherings. In Jainism, practitioners celebrate the last teaching of Mahavira in 527 BCE by meditating on his teachings and offering penance, which may include fasting.
