Moving, Waiting: A Screening and Discussion with Director Dagmawi Yimer
David Lawrence Hall
TBD
Dagmawi Yimer is a leading documentarian of migrant testimony in Italy. In 2005, he left his home in Addis Ababa due to growing political violence and endured the grueling journey through Libya to Italy. Living there, he began directing and co-directing films platforming oral and visual memories of migration and detention. His 2008 co-directed film, Like a Man on Earth, was the first Italian-made film to draw attention to the perilous journey and remains an exemplar of how to document difficult testimony ethically. Yimer will host a public screening of Like a Man on Earth (2008) and his later film, Waiting (2020), followed by a Q & A with Rachel Love and the audience."
