Bioengineering Seminar Series - Jelena Janjic

Jelena Janjic, Associate Professor of Pharmaceutics at Duquesne University, will present "From Design to Medicine: Engineering Biomaterials and Theranostics for Clinical Translation." Abstract The clinical impact of biomaterials and theranostic technologies is determined by the design decisions made long before they reach patients. This seminar will present an engineering framework in which biological function, immune modulation, quantitative imaging, manufacturability, and clinical translation are integrated from the earliest stages of development. Using examples from our work in pain medicine and regenerative medicine, I will demonstrate how engineering principles and quality-by-design approaches guide the development of biomaterials and theranostic systems into safe, reproducible, scalable, and clinically relevant medicines, illustrating how thoughtful design can bridge innovation and successful translation.
