Mathematics Teaching Seminar: Johnny Li
Project-based learning in Math Classroom Abstract: Project-based learning (PBL) is a highly effective active learning strategy, yet integrating it into a standard mathematics curriculum presents unique structural challenges. Drawing on practices from multiple institutions and educational research, this seminar explores the end-to-end design of PBL components within a differential equations course. I will break down the course structure and project structure, examine the mechanics of project evaluation, the integration of computational tools and AI, and how these collaborative assignments interact with core theoretical material, and other active learning strategies. Through a demonstration of pedagogical practices and student feedback, attendees will leave with scalable materials and concrete strategies to develop PBL components in their own courses. The event will be available both by Zoom and in Wean Hall 8220. Please complete this RSVP form if you plan on attending. Lunch will be provided to those attending in-person.
