Anna Seghers: The Legacy of a German-Jewish Socialist and Antifascist Writer

This event is part of the Socialist Studies Seminar. This paper focuses on Anna Seghers, one of the msot prominent German anti-fascist, socialist writers of the twentieth century. Seghers helped found the Federation of Proletarian-Revolutionary Writers in the 1920s, became a key anti-Nazi writer duringthe Hitler dictatorship, and a founding mother of East German litertature after the war. A leading literary-cultural functionary in the German Democratic Republic, she was also the most important German socialist realist authro fo the twentieth century. What became of her legacy?
