EPP Seminar: Cristóbal De La Maza — Data with Purpose: Environmental Intelligence for Regulatory Decision-Making

Cristóbal De La Maza (EPP PhD ’18), Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, will present a seminar on Tuesday, September 22, from 11 AM - 12 PM entitled “Data with Purpose: Environmental Intelligence for Regulatory Decision-Making.” Speaker Bio: Cristóbal De La Maza is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. His work bridges environmental policy, economics, and data science, with a focus on climate change, air pollution, energy, transportation, and environmental risk. He holds a Ph.D. and Master’s in Engineering and Public Policy, as well as an M.S. in Machine Learning, from Carnegie Mellon University. He previously served as Chile’s Superintendent of the Environment (2019–2022) and held senior leadership positions at the Ministries of Energy and Environment. His research applies economic analysis, machine learning, and data science to environmental and public policy challenges.
