Title: Driving Measurable Value Through Owner Focused Innovation Abstract: Digital transformation in the built environment is increasingly defined not by technology adoption alone, but by the ability to demonstrate measurable value. AI, openBIM, VDC, digital twins, Lean practices, and performance metrics are becoming more closely connected as organizations seek better project, asset, and business outcomes. Drawing on more than 30 years of experience in openBIM and digital innovation, including owner-focused initiatives across 30 countries, Dr. Calvin Kam will explore how governments, owners, and industry organizations can translate emerging technologies, open standards, and mandates into practical implementation strategies and measurable results. Building on his work as Founder and CEO of Strategic Building Innovation, his work with buildingSMART International on Global openBIM Mandates and openBIM Business Value, and research associated with Stanford University’s Center for Integrated Facility Engineering (CIFE), the presentation will examine how frameworks such as the VDC Scorecard can help organizations connect information requirements, quality controls, technology adoption, KPIs, and performance with broader business value. Looking forward, the session will explore how AI, openBIM, and VDC can increasingly enable digital twins, GIS, IoT, sustainability, and decarbonization - creating a stronger foundation for informed decision-making, smarter mandates, and improved whole-lifecycle performance across the built environment.
