LCAL Lecture Series: Stephen Brockmann on Anna Seghers

Anna Seghers helped found the Federation of Proletarian-Revolutionary Writers in the 1920s, became a key anti-Nazi writer during the Hitler dictatorship and a founding mother of East German literature after the war. A leading literary-cultural functionary in the German Democratic Republic, she was also the most important German socialist realist author of the twentieth century. In this lecture, Stephen Brockmann, professor of German studies, asks — and answers — the question, “What became of her legacy?” This event is co-sponsored by the Department of History.
