Sonic Plunge: An Immersive Experience @ the ETC

Room 3404 on the 3rd floor of the Entertainment Technology Center, 700 Technology Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15219

Sonic Plunge is an immersive, full-sensory contemplative journey inspired by practices of sound healing, deep listening, and embodied relaxation. The experience surrounds visitors with 270-degree visuals, self-playing singing bowls, spatial sound, haptic vibration, and aromatherapy, creating an environment where sound is experienced not only through listening, but physically through the body and the surrounding space. At the center of the experience are singing bowls and resonant sound. Their sustained tones, vibrations, and slowly evolving movement through space invite visitors to slow down, settle their attention, and become more aware of their bodies and surroundings. Haptic seating extends these vibrations into a tactile experience, while projected environments and scent work together with sound to support immersion, reflection, rest, and a deeper state of listening. The entire experience runs automatically as a carefully choreographed journey, allowing visitors to simply enter the space, settle in, and experience the work. Sonic Plunge is designed and curated by Monique Mead (Director of Music Entrepreneurship at Carnegie Mellon University School of Music), Felix Li (Student Researcher studying Music and Technology), Lilith Ren (Harvard Graduate School of Design), and Liam Chiu (BXA Student, Carnegie Mellon University). Experience Advisory Please note that Sonic Plunge takes place in a darkened, immersive environment and includes ambient scents, sustained and resonant sound, and tactile vibration through the seating and other elements. If you are sensitive to darkness, fragrance or scents, vibration, resonant audio, or immersive sensory environments, please consider these elements before signing up.
