Pittsburgh singer Brooke Annibale writes in a Bolder Font on new album

“At the heart of everything, I’m a singer-songwriter that started on acoustic guitar, but I love my electric guitar,” says Pittsburgh-born, Rhode Island-based artist Brooke Annibale. “I love electric sounds, but I also love really soft sounds. I’ve encompassed a lot of different directions in my music.” As she gears up to release her fifth record, Bolder Font , Annibale finds that she’s fallen back in love with music by learning to produce her own. On Sat., Sept. 26, she’ll be playing an album release show at The Sanctuary at Mr. Smalls. (The concert was originally scheduled to happen at the Original Pittsburgh Winery.) Later, she lived in the South Side Slopes and Polish Hill neighborhoods. While she now calls Providence, R.I. home, she maintains collaborative ties to Pittsburgh. Bolder Font ’s vinyl edition was pressed at Hellbender, and Pittsburgh artists created the album art and accompanying merch. While she outsourced those elements, Annibale was more involved in creating these songs than ever before, writing, performing, mixing, and producing all the songs, even directing music videos. “This is the first time that every single sound has my hands on it in some way,” she tells Pittsburgh City Paper . Annibale took this climate as an opportunity to empower herself by learning how to be even more self-sufficient. “I had no budget,” she says. “But I had done that before, so I decided to get even more resourceful this time.”  The record boasts a tight set of ten mid-tempo songs, softly swinging under Annibale’s warm lilt. Between her inviting voice and candid lyrics, it’s easy to see why her music has been featured in shows including Grey’s Anatomy, The Vampire Diaries, One Tree Hill, and Pretty Little Liars.
