Teaching With Callot (HAA Colloquium)
Ends:
Frick Fine Arts Library
TBD
Prof. Nygren co-founded the project Gun Violence and Its Histories, which is an interdisciplinary group of scholars who seek to use their training as humanists and scholars of early modernity to participate productively in ongoing discussions around guns, gun culture, and gun violence today. Since 2018, the group has been developing teaching materials related to the history of gun violence, and has productively used an incomplete set of Jacques Callot’s Horrors of War series as a teaching tool. Prof. Nygren recently purchased a complete set of these prints as a teaching tool, and during this colloquium he will present the prints, which have recently been conserved and framed for teaching, and walk the community through the slow-looking exercises that he has developed to help students confront the issue of gun violence in this landmark series of prints.
Please note that this talk will occur in the Frick Fine Arts Library Annex on the 2nd floor of the Library - access to the Annex from inside the Library is not accessible, so please email the Department (haadept@pitt.edu) if you require accessble access.
About the Speaker: Christopher J. Nygren is a Professor and Chair of the Department of History of Art and Architecture. Read his faculty profile.
