Teresa Rodríguez de las Heras Ballell is Full Professor of Commercial Law at Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, Spain, and President of the European Law Institute. She is the author of the ELI’s Guiding Principles on Automated Decision-Making in Europe (2022), and served as Co-Reporter of ELI’s Guiding Principles and Model Rules on Digital Assistants for Consumer Contracts (2025) and of ELI’s Principles and Guidance for Enforcement Against Digital Assets (2025). She was the Sir Roy Goode Scholar at UNIDROIT in 2021–2022, and is a Member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. She has served as Spain's delegate to numerous UNCITRAL Working Groups and in multiple capacities on various UNIDROIT projects.
She is an arbitrator at the Madrid Court of Arbitration and a member of the European Commission's Expert Group on Liability and New Technologies, the EU Expert Group for the Observatory on Platform Economy, and the EU Expert Group on B2B Data Sharing and Cloud Computing. Professor Rodríguez de las Heras Ballell has also had academic appointments at Tulane Law School, the National University of Singapore, the University of Sydney, the University of Cambridge, the University of Bremen (Germany), and Oxford University.
