Prospects and Key Issues of ROK-US Alliance Modernization: Brigadier General (Ret.) Choi Wan-kyu
Brigadier General (Ret.) Choi Wan-kyu is a distinguished expert in the ROK-US alliance, military strategy, and the revolution in military affairs. He retired from the Republic of Korea Army after 38 years of dedicated service.
BG (Ret.) Choi was commissioned as an Infantry Officer upon graduating from the Korea Military Academy in 1988. His academic achievements include a Bachelor of Arts degree from the Korea Military Academy, a Master of Arts in International Relations from Korea University, and a Ph.D. in International Politics from Kyong-gi University.
He furthered his professional education by attending the U.S. Army Infantry School at Fort Benning, Georgia, and the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
BG (Ret.) Choi had the honor of leading and serving alongside members of all military branches, inter-agency colleagues, and coalition partners throughout his career, from platoon-level units to the ROK-US Combined Forces Command. Notably, he served as the Director for ROK-US Policy in the Ministry of National Defense.
He also participated in multiple overseas deployments, including Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Currently, BG (Ret.) Choi teaches courses on the history of modern warfare and operational art at the Korea Military Academy.
