There is a moment on Fourth Street, usually early, when the couples who swore they don't dance are dancing. It happens most months now. Downtown Steubenville closes a block of North Fourth Street, and for one evening the pavement in front of the Steubenville Grocery Box belongs to whoever showed up with a date. Tables go out along the sidewalk. A chef cooks dinner in a pop-up kitchen. Matt Hill and the Classics set up where the traffic usually is and play New Orleans Jazz, Soul and Classic R&B into the open air. That is Date Night in Steubenville, and it comes back Saturday, September 26. It started from a complaint everyone around here has made: there is nothing to do. So once a month the street closes and dinner comes outside, with wait staff and wine glasses. The chef is different every time, so the menu never repeats. One recent night brought grilled swordfish with a summer vegetable caponata from Chef Ron Carr, newly arrived in Steubenville. The beer and wine come from the Grocery Box. You eat at a table for two, inside or along the sidewalk, and when the music gets you, the street is right there. The dancing is the part people worry about and then forget about.
