Eric Spiegel has spent 35+ years in technology. He started as a software developer, moved into leadership, and went on to build and lead teams at startups and Fortune 100 companies. He spent 6 years at Amazon Web Services, where he led a global partner team and conducted 250+ interviews as a hiring manager.
Today, Eric is the Life Design Educator for Computer Science students at Johns Hopkins University, where he advises undergraduates on internships, first jobs, and career strategy in a market reshaped by AI. He also runs First Move Advisory, an independent career advisory practice for early-career students and professionals.
Students advised by Eric have landed internships and full-time roles at OpenAI, Google, Amazon, and other leading employers. He has also seen a growing number of new grads choose startups over big tech, and he can explain what is driving that shift.
Eric is a Pitt alumnus (BS, Information Science, '88), has MS from Johns Hopkins, and has mentored Pitt
students for decades.
