Through perspectives from Carnegie Mellon University faculty and industry leaders, the rotating series examines how generative AI is reshaping data and prediction, AI literacy, immersive media and games, film and authorship and workforce development. No technical background is required. Each session is 60 minutes on Zoom, including time for audience questions. Topic: From Herb Simon’s Desk to the Classroom: Carnegie Mellon’s Next Chapter in AI Literacy Generative AI is reshaping how people learn, research and decide, and much of that change is being driven by a handful of commercial vendors. This session describes how Dietrich College is responding on two fronts: a new course that teaches students to think with AI rather than instead of it, through a cultural lens and with an emphasis on productive struggle; and DARE, an open-source platform built at the college that gives students, faculty and researchers a choice of models while keeping control of data and tools in academic hands. Speaker: Vincent Sha — Associate Dean of IT & Operations & Technical Lead, Open Forum for AI, Dietrich College, Carnegie Mellon University This event is organized by the Department of Languages, Cultures & Applied Linguistics (LCAL) and sponsored by the InnoGen Fund and CETIC.
