For more than 40 years, Breakthrough Collaborative has supported students from across the country, on their path to college – working with them during summers and through out-of-school programs. During a summer teaching residency with Breakthrough, you will gain valuable classroom experience and grow your leadership skills in a fun and supportive community. Receive 100+ hours of training and continued coaching from professional educators. Participate in a summer program with living stipend. Develop skills in presentation, public-speaking, collaboration, and leadership. Teach academic and enrichment classes at one of our affiliate sites. Learn classroom management, instructional strategies, and feedback techniques. Serve with a collaborative group of motivated students, undergraduates, and professionals in a hard-working and fun community.

Member Duties : AmeriCorps members with Breakthrough Collaborative will serve rising 5th-9th grade students in summer academic enrichment programming. The full-day sessions (typically 8:30am to 4pm Monday- Friday) consist of daily 50-minute classes in English, math, science, and social studies (aligned to Common Core State Standards), electives and foreign language, amount to 80 additional learning hours over the summer. Students also participate in field trips, special events, college visits, and career exploration. AmeriCorps members receive two to three weeks of pre-summer training, ongoing professional development throughout the summer, and one week after the summer program to reflect on their success and areas of growth.

Our organization seeks to serve the kids of Crafton Heights and surrounding communities. One way to do that is by providing a safe space for completing homework! The "Homework Help" After School Program is open to kids in Kindergarten through 5th grade. We are looking for volunteers to be the "Help" for the students we see!
