Online Teaching Using Canvas

Online Teaching and Learning encompasses different modalities with one common element: instruction requires access to the internet. Pitt’s official learning management system (LMS) is called Canvas, and all instructors have access to a Canvas course “shell” each semester; a virtual space in which to build their course. During this session, we will review four basic principles of online course design using Canvas to support your in-person and/or remote course to and to enhance your and your students’ educational experiences. So that we may devote our time to thinking together about the pedagogical rationale that guides our use of Canvas’ features (i.e., Modules, Pages, Assignments/Assessments), we expect you to have completed either of these ~60 minute long, pre-workshop activities: Option 1: Complete the Introduction to Canvas: Foundations course, orOption 2: Watch the recorded webinar Introduction to Canvas: Getting StartedThis workshop may be counted toward the Online Teaching concentration of the Achievement in Pedagogy Badge, offered through the Graduate Student Teaching Initiative.
