Shana Simmons Dance (SSD) seeks community leaders who are passionate about the dance arts as being an empowering experience through both participation and observing. SSD is in need of individuals willing to serve as members on the Board of Directors in the Pittsburgh area, though members can live in a different location.
About Shana Simmons Dance’s Board of Directors:
SSD has been producing exciting and immersive project-based work in the Pittsburgh area since 2012 and became a 501(c)(3) in 2017. The organization is managed by one full-time staff member, the Artistic Director and Founder. The organization’s growth since 2017 is in large part due to the contributions of a small but active working board. Board members provide governance and oversight for the organization, support the implementation of the organization’s strategic plan, and actively contribute to the organization through committee participation. Board meetings are held quarterly, with the potential for adding extra meetings as necessary.
Shana Simmons Dance Board Members:

Serve for a term of one initial year with the option to continue at the end of first term. Each term after that is a 2-year commitment.

Attend at least 75% of board and committee meetings and attend at least one event annually

Offer networking and marketing help for every fundraising effort.

Make an annual personal financial contribution at a level that is meaningful to them

Actively participate in one or more organizational fundraising activities annually

Oversee and contribute to implementing SSD’s strategic plan
Qualifications:
In order to maintain a well-rounded board, Shana Simmons Dance seeks board members with expertise in any of the following areas:

Accounting and/or finance (especially nonprofit)
-
Law
-
Fundraising
-
Nonprofit management
-
Human Resources
-
Creative entrepreneurship or entrepreneur support
