Saturday Morning Produce Distribution Volunteer

Hello and welcome to our program! We have been serving our Northview Heights neighbors since 2022 and are proud to have you as a potential volunteer to help us do our work!

You will arrive at the location listed on our sign up genius and in our emails when we email you, parking is available in a parking lot or on street parking. We gather under the portico of the large high rise. Produce arrives from another group of volunteers.

We unload the vehicles that are other volunteers that bring the produce from our vendor and organize the produce being delivered in a line starting at the glass doors and ending at the end/edge of the portico roof. We open and prep boxes of produce so that they are ready for clients and distribution which begins promptly at 9:30am.

Approximately from 9:30am-10:30, clients and neighbors come through the line and are asked to take a certain number of each item per household. Example - 3 tomatoes per household and 1 bunch of bananas.

We invite people to come through the line until all produce is gone. We break down boxes and clean up our trash and take them to the dumpster across the street. The 10:30 am ending is approximate. Sometimes we are done sooner and sometimes we stick around longer than that to give everything away.

You would be participating in providing fresh and free produce to a community that is in a food desert. We have officially been doing this for a year and it's a great program to log community service hours, get to know people that live in Pittsburgh, and participate in a program that is working to provide fresh and healthy produce to a community in the Pittsburgh area.

1 shift available:

  • You will be carrying boxes and bags of produce, setting them up for distribution, and then organizing and helping clients through the line of produce: 09:00 to 10:15 EST

Pumpkin Unloading at the Sewickley UMC Pumpkin Patch

If you have been to Sewickley in the fall, you know that one of the highlights of the season is the Sewickley UMC Pumpkin Patch. It is a beautiful display of autumn pumpkins, cornstalks and haybales. We need volunteers to help us unload the pumpkins from the truck and display them around our church lawn.
