412 Food Rescue x Velum Fermentation 2120 Jane St., South Side. velumfermentation.com
If recent news stories are any indication, berries are having a big moment, so much so that parents can barely keep up with their kids’ demands for the sweet fruits. Unfortunately, even with the sudden popularity, 412 Rescue knows many berries will go bad before hitting produce shelves.
The anti-food waste nonprofit joined forces with South Side brewery, Velum Fermentation, to save nearly 10,000 pounds of strawberries and mixed berries for Saved By the Berry, described in a press release as a “refreshing hard cider.” The nostalgic label design also recalls the cider’s namesake, the ’90s TV show Saved by the Bell .
Celebrate the cider’s launch at Velum on Thu., July 9, during the Now That’s What I Call 90s! party. Enjoy ’90s music, free pickleball on Velum’s indoor courts, raffles, and a best-dressed contest with prizes. 412 Food Rescue will receive 10% of the proceeds from Saved By the Berry sales
