House from The Demon of Brownsville Road, now for sale, haunts the paranormal investigation world

There’s 112 Ocean Ave. of Amityville Horror fame, the haunted 1730s farmhouse in Rhode Island that inspired The Conjuring , and then there’s 3406 Brownsville Rd. right here in Brentwood. The formerly haunted home that has operated as a bed and breakfast for the last seven years was the subject of the book The Demon of Brownsville Road . The building has had quite a few alleged instances that caused evil to inhabit it, including a laborer’s curse on the house when it was built in the early 1900s and Indigenous people killing a family of settlers in the 1790s. Last week, the home was listed for sale by its owner, Bob Cranmer. The property is being sold either as a home for $550,000 or as a B&B for $625,000, which will include its contents. In the past, people in the home had frequently experienced objects moving on their own, disembodied voices, putrid smells, and bleeding or stained walls. When things started to get more violent — as in, family members being physically attacked, leaving scratches and claw marks — Cranmer chose to get the Catholic Church involved. Former host of A&E’s Paranormal State Ryan Buell encountered the home at just 22 years old. Cranmer told him that the Catholic Church recommended that he contact Buell, who at the time had been leading the Paranormal Research Society, a student-led club at Penn State. “So here I am at just 22, being asked to consult and help a family on this case with the Catholic Church that would be a demonic infestation ,” Buell tells Pittsburgh City Paper.
