Annual Butterfly Count - Grab a Net and Join Us!

You and your family are invited to join us for our annual Butterfly Count on Saturday, July 18 (rain date: July 25) in which you/your children will use nets to delicately catch a variety of butterflies in our MBTC meadow, receive education from the Wildlife Team on the native butterfly species and other pollinators, help our team to log important information about the butterflies, and then release them back to their beautiful garden! The results of our count will be recorded with the North American Butterfly Association(https://www.naba.org/). Refreshments, door prizes, and crafts for the children will be available! Special guests include: • June “The Butterfly Lady” who will share butterfly fun and educational facts • Dan the beekeeper from Deez Beez who will talk about his honey-making process (plus offer some honey for purchase) • PPG colleague Josh Coyne who will exhibit his entomology collection A limited number of butterfly nets will be available. Participants are encouraged to bring their own net, if possible, as well as to wear light colored clothing, bring a hat as it may be hot, and apply bug spray/sunscreen! Cold water, light refreshments, crafts and door prizes will be available following the count. Event is scheduled to conclude by 11:30 am. Area residents and those interested in participating must register for the event (click on Get Tickets above or use QR code on flyer). Please register all children and adults by July 9th for planning purposes. The results of the butterfly count will be recorded with the North American Butterfly Association.
