Plein Air Painting Competition

Join Dormont Arts for a day of outdoor painting at the Dormont Community Garden! This juried plein air contest is open to all artists and offers cash prizes for top finishers. Schedule 9:30 AM — Check-in at the garden 10:00 AM — Painting begins 3:00–3:30 PM — Artists return to the garden for photography and documentation of work Artists take work home to finish details and apply varnish Art in the Park — September 19, 2026 Finished works will be displayed at Art in the Park, where winners will be announced. Artists will be asked to bring their completed paintings to the event. Judging: Work will be judged by local artist Josh Hoffman. Prizes 1st Place: $250 2nd Place: $150 3rd Place: $100 Registration required. Sign up here before the event. Rules: Artist check in is at 9:30, turn in is between 3 and 3:30 at the Dormont Community Garden. Artists must paint “plein air” or outdoors, in person, on the day of the event. Works will be photographed at 3:30 pm for later judging by local award winning plein air painter Joshua Hoffman. Artists can paint on location, anywhere in Dormont borough limits. Artist may take home work to frame or varnish their work when it dries. Cash Prizes will be awarded at “Art in the Park” in Dormont Park on September 19th, 2026. To win any of the cash prizes, all artists agree to bring back and display their work at Art in the Park. Artists must supply their own painting supplies.
