Afterimages: A Phantasmagoria
Saturday, July 12 | 7 - 10 PM | Program begins at 8 PMTickets $10, free for Mattress Factory membersWhat fades, erodes, or slips from view leaves behind traces and impressions, taking new form.Presented in conversation with rebecca shapass’s current exhibition tempus fugit, we bring together film and poetry to attend to the unseen: the mechanics of the body, the residue of spirit, and the uncanny vitality of matter in decay.This multimedia program features a live reading by Cate Peebles from her Bram Stoker Award–nominated book The Haunting, alongside screenings of Barbara Hammer’s film Sanctus, Takashi Ito's Ghost, and Deborah Stratman’s The Magician’s House, all on 16mm prints. Together, these works meditate on preservation, disappearance, and metamorphosis.Afterimages: A Phantasmagoria is generously supported by the Horror Studies Center at the University of Pittsburgh and co-presented in collaboration with Pittsburgh Sound + Image.
