Secondary Traumatic Stress in Clinical Settings - July 2026
Ends:
Free
“Compassion Satisfaction” is the sense of pride and accomplishment many health care workers can derive from their work. Yet, according to NCTSN, 30%-50% of caring professionals experience compassion fatigue or secondary traumatic stress, often leading to burnout and professionals leaving the field. Much like the traumatic experiences of our clients, the secondary stress felt by caring professionals can lead to changes in the way we process and think.
Participants will discuss secondary traumatic stress (“STS”) and its relevance to these trends. We will define STS and two related problems, compassion fatigue and burnout. Then we will consider symptoms of these and how to develop resilience through a personal “compassion satisfaction plan” that protects their well-being and effectiveness in this work.
