8 times yinzers out-yinzered themselves on local TV

You’ve seen it before: a local news anchor gets a routine assignment, and while they’re on scene, they manage to find the most genuine, entertaining, lively, oftentimes bizarre person to interview. While it happens all over the country, Pittsburgh reporters have managed to find a few true yinzer legends. Here are just a few of the many yinzer news clips we’ve loved over the years. Her husband lies so much During a cold winter afternoon live report from Penn Hills in 2022, Alyssa Raymond is filling everyone in on a fire rescue from a home. The scene cuts to local resident Angela Spynda , whose clip is peak yinzer. She explains that her husband looked “aht” their window and remarked on how the house across the street was on fire. Clearly exasperated, she says she didn’t believe her husband at first because he “lies so much.” Spynda later calls the rescuer an “angel.” Yinzer lightning strike Picture it: a man clad in a typical Pittsburgh summer uniform, a McCutchen Pirates jersey, his long hair tucked into a matching baseball cap. He’s describing his Brookline home getting struck by lightning in what can only be described as the most dramatic way possible. He talks about what are the chances he’s laying right next to lightning, then proceeds to wave his hands saying, “It come ahht —” then making what can only be described as cartoon-like sound effects from the 1960s Batman show (POW! BAM!). WPXI’s former anchor David Johnson returns on screen, trying not to laugh and says, “that’s a good description of it right there!” Hopefully someone bought this man an IC Light at his next Pirates game to celebrate surviving a lightning strike.
