Role: 3D Plant Layout Engineer – Revit/BIM Specialist (Industrial Engineering / Factory and Manufacturing Design)
Location: Pittsburgh, PA (After 6 months Austin, TX)
Key Responsibilities
- BIM Standards & Governance: Establish and maintain BIM standards for equipment naming, family classifications, file organization, model ownership, approval workflows, and revision control.
- Equipment Integration & Optimization: Integrate manufacturing equipment CAD models into Revit, simplifying complex assemblies while preserving critical geometry, maintenance clearances, and coordination requirements.
- Revit Families & Automation: Develop standardized Revit families, equipment libraries, templates, and custom views.
- Factory Layout & Utility Coordination: Maintain coordinated 3D factory layouts, including equipment, pallets, material flow aisles, utility connections, and volumetric envelopes across multiple elevations.
- Navisworks & Clash Detection: Develop and maintain federated Navisworks models, perform clash detection across manufacturing and facility systems, and track tagged conflicts, viewpoints, and resolutions.
- Model Management & Interoperability: Maintain equipment parameters, optimize model health, manage CAD/Revit import-export workflows, and prepare compatible geometry for FlexSim simulations (Example: .fbx files or .stp files)
- ACC & Bluebeam Collaboration: Manage Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) projects, model publishing, permissions, and version control; use Bluebeam for drawing reviews, markups, and coordination of engineering changes.
- BIM Infrastructure, Training & Support: Maintain standardized factory base models, migrate legacy CAD layouts into Revit, train manufacturing engineers, and troubleshoot modeling, coordinate alignment, and software integration issues.
Deliverables:
- Factory BIM Models: Updated, coordinated Revit layouts integrating equipment, utilities, infrastructure, and material flow.
- Standardized Libraries: Optimized equipment families, BIM templates, custom views
- Clash Reports: Navisworks models with tagged clashes, assigned owners, and resolution tracking.
- Engineering Documentation: ACC-published models, Bluebeam markups, drawing revisions, and archived layouts.
- Model Quality & Interoperability: Validated equipment data, model health reports, and FlexSim-compatible exports.
Required Skills:
- Revit & AutoCAD: Advanced modeling, equipment integration, family creation, model optimization, and CAD interoperability.
- Navisworks Manage: Model federation, clash detection, clearance analysis, and issue tracking.
- ACC & Bluebeam: Cloud collaboration, document management, drawing reviews, and revision control.
- Automation & Integration: Revit/AutoCAD/Navisworks/Inventor/Bluebeam/ACC
- Manufacturing BIM: Factory layouts, equipment utility interfaces, material handling, and multidisciplinary coordination.
- BIM Governance: Modeling standards, shared coordinates, data integrity, model health, and engineering workflows.
Must-Have Skills — 3D Modeling Plant Engineer:
- 3D plant modeling (Revit) — Build and maintain 3D plant models in Revit (BIM).
- Use Navisworks to combine and coordinate 3D models and identify potential layout conflicts.
- Equipment modeling — Create accurate 3D models of all manufacturing equipment and integrate them into the plant layout.
- 2D ↔ 3D layouts — Develop 3D models from 2D factory layouts and keep both in sync.
- Vendor coordination — Work with equipment vendors to obtain and validate model data and specs.
- Cross-functional collaboration — Partner with IE, manufacturing, construction and facilities teams to align the model with real plant requirements.
- Change / version control — Manage model revisions and keep a clear release/approval history.
